Boston Tea Party 250th Event

The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum will be holding a grand reenactment of the tea party celebrating the 250th anniversary. We see this as a great opportunity to get our children involved in history. They are looking for loose-leaf tea donations to be tossed into the Boston harbor. During Saturday activities this year, the children will get to prepare burlap sacks filled with tea and will have the option to personalize them with their names. We will ship them to the Museum where they will be thrown into the harbor on December 16th, 2023.

The December16.org website describes the event below.

The United States will commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 2023. Dubbed by John Adams as the “most magnificent movement of all”, the Boston Tea Party is one of the nation’s most iconic events and one that propelled America down the road to revolution.

To commemorate this iconic event, a multitude of organizations are working together to create a commemorative year (December 16, 2022 – December 16, 2023) of public engagement, dynamic programming, special exhibits, events, installations, and performances. This year of commemorations will feature unprecedented levels of collaboration between organizations across Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including museums, schools, and historical organizations, in addition to Boston’s arts, tourism, and hospitality industries. The year will culminate in a grand-scale, live reenactment of the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 2023.

This commemorative year (December 16, 2022-December 16, 2023) will feature:

  • Special exhibits, artwork, and public programs
  • Community and school outreach
  • Theatrical performances
  • Virtual presentations and webinars
  • Genealogical programs
  • Historical festivals
  • And much more!
